Record Store Day 2012
The cashiers check that I mailed to my landlord for this months rent got lost in the mail. I found out that then, cashiers checks cannot be canceled/refunded until 90 days after the initial payment, it’s federal regulation. So now we have to pay rent twice this month. On the plus side in three months I won’t have to pay rent at all because they money will then be refunded… but now that I’ve shelled out for rent twice this month, I basically have nothing left - and thus, cannot buy a single record - not even for record store day 2012. BOO

Pop-punk is for pudgy self-haters. Hardcore sucks worse than it did 10 years ago, which seemed impossible at the time. Punk is now Green Day. Indie rock is the new Ke$ha. Chillwave is for former swoop-hair kids who’ve aged out of their scene. Shoegaze is the new jazz music, meaning people only pretend to like it. Bands with earnest, gruff vocals are the new swoop-hairbands. Everything you like really truly sucks.
Do you know what all the sentences above have in common? Besides the fact that they’re true, I mean. Can’t guess? OK, here’s what links those ideas:
You shouldn’t care. You shouldn’t validate them by arguing. You should ignore them completely.
There’s only one thing worse in this whole world than a misguided nerd, and that’s an apologetic one. You like what you like. You should always be looking to expand your palate but, at the end of the day, you can’t force it.
If you’re into Saves The Day, you’re into it. There’s no need to put on airs or dress it up. And if you like ignorant mosh music, it’s just part of your DNA. You’ll probably always like it. Don’t hide your Hatebreed lyric tattoos. Maybe you still dye your hair colors not found in nature. Don’t hide your Mindless Self Indulgence tattoo. Or that ICP hatchetman logo on your ankle.
Here’s the thing. As lame as everything I listed at the beginning of this essay is, the stuff people believe to be cool is just as corny. Hardcore kids want to be indie rockers; indie rockers want to be house DJs. Someone put it in their heads that they should always be chasing cool. It’s all a crock. There is no “cool.” It just doesn’t exist. Chasing it makes you uncomfortable in your own skin and paints you as an insecure clown to the rest of the world.
I’m confident everything you like sucks. I know it. But there is not a reason in the world you should care about my opinion. There’s no reason you should value ANY person’s opinion over what your ears tell you. Never change for the guy at the record store, the geek in a popular band, or some faceless blog. Don’t bother defending your position. Just like what you like.

I agree with like 80% of this.
April 5th, In Seattle.
Today is the 10th anniversary of Layne Staley death, and the 18th anniversary of Kurt Cobains death. Sad day in the analogs of Seattle music history. However, I feel good about knowing this, and taking the time to mention it. Also, it looks like it’s going to be a sunny day here today. I always think of the AIC song “Rain Shen I Die” of 1994’s ‘Dirt’… because it does rain a lot here, but not today!
The fact that I now live in Seattle is great, It’s a wonderful city (but with perhaps too many hills), and has a rich arts/music scene. I been albe to go see a handful of house shows so far, and go see Dr. Dog play as well. Tonight we’re going to see “The Zones” - three live episodes performed from one of the best TV shows ever, The Twilight Zone. But still, nothing can change the fact that this very day, years ago changed music permanently. You’re missed.

I totally dropped the ball on trying to make that a thing. Dang it.
"What is this crazy internet phenominon with the tiny one hand?" It's Paula Deen. And her hand is normal size. Someone photoshopped this...
Well yeah, no shit. But why would someone make a blog with photoshoped picutes of celebrities with ‘One Tiny Hand.’ Because it’s the internet, that’s why.
At any rate it doesn’t matter, my original question statement was rhetorical, as I really just find it excessively bizarre.

Almost two months in Seattle and,
I haven’t run into Eddie Vedder yet. Otherwise life is going pretty well, I realized today that I now feel comfortable enough in Ballard to ride almost exclusively no hands and I just got hired at a really neat little restaurant that’s going to be trusting me to do a lot of really cool stuff and i’m really excited about it! But seriously, why can’t I at least spot Ed?

Yikes! I had this spinning yesterday. I’d forgotten about the AIC cover… I’m not sure how I feel about DRA doing that tune!
I’ve always rather liked the cover….
Phew! I believe as the story goes, after hearing Ryan preform wonderwall Noel simple ‘gave’ the song to Ryan - because as i’ve heard he does it way better. I do love Oasis, I would simply say that neither version is better - They’re equal. But growing up in the Pacific Northwest AIC just has a place in my heart - I don’t really care for the cover. But that’s okay! I also happen to think that Ryan’s re-production of ‘my love for you is real’ is ultra lame partly because the Cowboy Technical Services version (the original in my mind) is just so good!
